TEAGHAN JOHNSTON -
JUNIOR FEMALE SHOOTER OF THE YEAR

1: Name: Teaghan Johnston

2: Age:17

3: Favourite shooting discipline: sitting post because it is most comfortable and stable. Plus it is my best discipline.

4: What’s one of the funniest things that have happened to you whilst being involved in the sport.-There have been quite a few funny things that have happened like when you get out there (our range is like 20mins from town) and realise you have left the gun behind. Not funny at the time of course but later on you can laugh. The coaches always laugh at me as I don’t count my shots as I take them and always put the gun up after my last shot to take ‘the last shot’ but its always a dry fire as there are no actual bullets left.

5:  It’s the night before a big competition, what do you get your mum to cook up so you can perform at your best the next day? -  Has to be pasta lots and lots of pasta as this is also what I have before I compete in swimming it’s become a kind of tradition, followed by Weetbix and Sustagen for breakfast.

6:  What’s your favourite movie? -I really like Harry Potter but he defiantly comes second to Pirates of the Caribbean.

7:  What has inspired you to be the best female junior shooter in the state? -  I really get a kick out of beating the boys, but I really like being in a male dominant sport and ‘playing’ equal, there are not many sports where girls and boys are equal.

8:  Which do you prefer Miloor Nesquik and why? -  Has to be Milo. I love eating it out of the tin, on ice cream and in cold milk - Nesquick just does not cut it.

9:  What is the worst chore/job you have to do around the house after school? -  I hate ironing, drying dishes and anything to do with a washing line; however, I don’t mind using the washing machine or cooking.

10: Why did you choose shooting over netball, tennis and other female orientated sports? - I didn’t, Hahaha, I still play netball and competitively swim. I am a very busy person an absolute sportoholic , shooting is a good break from the fast nature of the other sports it’s less strict and stressful.

11: What is your ultimate goal that you wish to achieve in the sport? -  I would love to hold a National Title.

12: who do you idolise in sports shooting? -  Lauren Marks…… I have watched her shoot at high levels including the Commonwealth Games, and I have talked to her in person, she manages to balance her family, life and her sport well and I admire her for this.

Sam Elsmore

2: Age:15

3: Favourite shooting discipline:10m Air Rifle

4: What's one of the funniest things that have happened to you whilst being involved in the sport.- Borrowing someone's brand new $5000 Anschutz rifle for a competition, shooting a perfect score on one card, outshooting the person who leant me the rifle with their own rifle and being put into A grade for that discipline.

5:  It's the night before a big competition, what do you get your mum/dad to cook up so you can perform at your best the next day? -  I don't really have a favourite meal for the night before but i usually get my dad to cook me bacon and eggs for breakfast the morning of the competition.

7:  What has inspired you to be the best male junior shooter in the state? -  The obsession of always trying to do better.

I prefer Nesquik because it doesn't leave an overpowering after taste like Milo.

9:  What is the worst chore/job you have to do around the house after school? -
Cleaning my room because I'm a bit of a slob and find it annoying to tidy up something only to make it messy again 5 minutes later.

10: Why did you choose shooting over football, cricket and other popular sports? –
I chose shooting over other sports because it is an individual sport so it is entirely up to me to perform well.

11: What is your ultimate goal that you wish to achieve in the sport? -
To  represent Australia in the 2012 Olympics in London.

12: who do you idolise in sports shooting?
I idolize my Father because although he  doesn't compete that much he still willingly drives me around to most of  the competitions.
